Artists bios:

Philip Pun18 Cruz:
Pun18 was born on September 22, 1985 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where his fascination with drawing began during childhood. Inspired specifically by comics and animated series, these influences inspired him to create his own characters. At 10 years old, Pun met with theworld of graffiti and at 15, he decided to engage in the art. What began as a hobby became his career. At the beginning of this professional stage, Pun came to participate in exhibitions in and outside Puerto Rico, in countries such as Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Canada, and the United States. His current work involves, in addition to the graffiti, comics, animation, pop art, and surrealism.
The concept of his work is based on personal experiences and social criticism featuring a range of bold colors with the intention of highlighting what interests his audience and/or concerns of the society we live in today.

Alex Scaner:
It was the year 1996 when Scaner entered the graffiti territory he
would soon call home: Montreal, the cultural metropolis and its surroundings. He began learning about the graffiti movement with a multi-disciplinary group: Delinquent Artists, commonly known as DA. Throughout the years, this group has earned a reputable position within the community. As one of the most active graffiti writers, Scaner quickly became an established icon of Montreal’s landscape. The artist has distinguished himself by refining his style, opting for flamboyant colours and choosing the locations of his graffiti strategically. Wanting to escape daily routine, Scaner turned to traveling to broaden his horizons. Mexico, New York, Paris, San Juan, Rome, and countless other cities now bear the signature of the artist. Today, his work is internationally recognized and he proudly represents the group Keep Going (KG).
According to Scaner, graffiti should be in constant evolution, believing that in his turn, he can help change and shape its growththrough his work. His studies in industrial design and architecture have allowed him to further explore the inspiration he draws from urban landscapes and to develop innovative approaches to his work. Scaner and Montreal have come to be one, inseparable.

ZekOne:
Montreal native and graffiti veteran, Zek, has been painting since 1993. He still considers spray paint his medium of choice, but explores airbrushing, acrylics and other forms of paint in his work. After 18 years of painting, Zek’s significant presence in the scene has garnered international attention and a place in multiple galleries and events, including a charity art auction in Paris (spring 2010) in support of SOS Racisme. Zek is currently employed by Tandem/The Cityof Montreal as official muralist and has held this position for 4 years, painting murals full time all over NDG and Cotes-des-neiges.
Through his involvement with A’Shop (www.ashop.ca), Zek’s influence has reached multiple clients in the local community, most notably at The Montreal Museum of Fine Art’s prestigious fundraising soiree ”Eyes Wide Open”. The A’Shop team also works with clients as internationally recognizable as Sirius Satellite Radio, Volkswagon, Cirque du Soleil, Red Bull, and many more. Travelling remains central to Zek’s career; he tries to maintain at least two graffiti trips every year to locations ranging from New York to the Caribbean to Europe, painting at least one piece at every stop. Throughout his longstanding career, Zek has continued to approach each day as an opportunity to improve his work, finding progress a welcome result of this perspective. Zek remains as focused today, as he was on the first day he began to paint.

Kems:
Kems is an internationally recognized graffiti artist who started painting in the early to mid 90s under the handle of Kem5. A native of New England, he developed a unique style of technical painting originating from his area. Kems’ work has always focused on the advancement of letter structure, also known as “Style Writing”. What continually sets his work apart from others’ is the subtle attention to abstract detail and colour. In more recent times Kems’ public work has continued to advance the balance between letters and colour,finding a harmony between the two. Juxtaposing highly saturated colours, his work creates a visual strain on the eye while attempting to create a positive aesthetic. The result is pleasantly sickening.
Kems is most known for his graffiti art but his creative talents have transformed into a diverse range of private and corporate veins. His work can be found in numerous books and publications throughout the world. Most notably in “Graffiti World” (2004), “Street World” (2007), “Graffiti Planet” (2009) and “Graffiti Burners” (2010). Kems continues to work on a global scale through “Ground Release”, a multi-cultural team of artists involved in a variety of visual projects. He is also an active member on the Ironlak team.
